This elephant calf is one of the many finely carved sculptures found in the Parashurameshwar Temple, located in the northwestern corner of the well-tended gardens of the temple city of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. The temple was built between the 7th and 8th centuries.
In ancient India, the elephant symbolized sacred wisdom, royal dignity, invincible power, and prudence. In Buddhism, it holds a revered place as a symbol of spiritual knowledge, stability, and inner strength.
According to legend, a white elephant appeared in a dream to Queen Maya, foretelling the birth of the future ruler of the world—Gautama Buddha. For this reason, the elephant became a symbol of enlightenment, purity, and divine grace, guiding the soul toward spiritual awakening.

Ukrainian artist working under the pseudonym AreiRa. Born in 1988 in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Graduated from the Kharkiv Academic Art Lyceum and studied Interior Design at the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. Since 2023, she has been actively engaged in painting, working primarily with acrylic and watercolor. Her artistic practice combines figurative and mythological imagery, exploring themes of inner transformation, spiritual resilience, and the search for harmony. She draws inspiration from sacred symbolism, architectural heritage, and the cultural codes of ancient civilizations, creating compositions rich in subtle metaphors and emotional depth. For AreiRa, painting is a form of meditative practice, where the material and the symbolic intertwine to open new inner dimensions. Her works have been exhibited in Ukraine and abroad. The artist’s practice evolves through a dialogue with philosophy and the visual language of global cultural heritage. Her works are aesthetic and spiritual focal points that harmonize space and open an inner silence.
