Aron Hill
"A Home At Night With Yellow Roof" Contemporary Acrylic on Canvas

About the Item

"A Home At Night With Yellow Roof" is a framed acrylic painting on canvas by Aron Hill, depicting abstract shapes in different shades of yellow, red, and blue on raw canvas. The carefully composed forms are at once both asymmetrical and perfectly balanced. The weight of the deep blue and overlapping red create a sense of gravity while the yellow "roof" draws the eye upward. This piece is finished in a silver floater frame with subtle beveling and a whitewashed woodgrain effect along the frame's interior and sides. Pricing includes the pictured frame. Unframed dimensions are 30 x 24 inches. About the artist: Aron Hill currently lives and works in Calgary, Alberta. He graduated from Alberta College of Art and Design in 2000 with a BFA in Interdisciplinary studies. He then completed his MFA at Goldsmiths College, University of London. From there, his work evolved into installation-based projects using traditional drawing and painting methods alongside formal sculptural elements, large format photography and text based work. Hill’s recent work has been focused on formalist paintings that recall aspects of minimalism as his color field paintings reference the figure throughout. He finds conceptual company in late Modernist paintings, particularly those produced in Canada. The use of a restricted medium—acrylic ink washes on prepared raw canvas—forces restraint. The work's graphic nature relies on the sheer flatness this medium produces.

The works consider the images and ideas that mark my journey into the spiritual and cultural dimensions of painting as a creative activity. During a period when I have carried adventurous journeys across several different social and geographic divides, I began to search deeper for an understanding of who I am, and where I am. My paintings started to explore the idea of self as the most fundamental element of human nature; I tried to seek my identity as I examined human nature."
