About the Item

Based in the New Haven, CT area, Barbara Marks creates sumptuous, multicolored paintings. Her canvases are small in scale, compared to the mid-century abstractionist traditions they recall. Initially perceivable as evolutions from this art historical lineage, Marks’ compositions push further—into both the three-dimensional and psychological realms while invoking a striking immediacy. For Marks, color is not merely employed as pigment, but rather as form. Rendered in her characteristic square shape, the paintings from her series “Recollection” comprise a visual record of locations that the artist has visited. Upon closer observation—walls, angles and perspective lines—interiors and landscapes—emerge. Viewers find themselves teetering into curious, liminal spaces between abstraction and representation, where reality slips into dream states. An ongoing series, “Recollection” currently exceeds 150 works, which are numbered rather than didactically titled. Thus, collectively, these explorations reveal Marks’ intention to free painting from fixed interpretation, allowing for a continuum of interpretations by artist and viewers. Additionally, SEFA’s exhibition will debut Marks’ new series of “Upcycled” paintings on collapsed, disassembled packaging material, notably cardboard boxes, re-envisioned structurally and aesthetically.

Stark Canyon - Modern Original Colorful Abstract Landscape Painting
By Jodi Fuchs
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Jodi Fuchs creates modern abstract expressionistic artworks with undeniable energy. Years of inquiry into the metaphysical aspects of life have influenced her studio practice. This is where the act of creation is the muse. By following intuitive impulses, Fuchs' work speaks to the chaos and stillness (and the reconciliation of these two forces) inherent in the human experience. This original 24-inch high by 36-inch wide artwork is an acrylic composition on canvas. It is Fuchs’ fascination with the pure creative force: understanding it, harnessing it and expressing it, that fuels her painting process. This painting is signed on the back. The sides of this artwork are painted and it does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U. S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Born in New York in 1964, Jodi Fuchs is an award-winning contemporary abstract painter living in Los Angeles. Her education about color and pattern came on the job while working as a decorative painter for 20+ years. One hundred thousand wine labels by Georges Duboeuf have been adorned with her art. Fuchs' work has been featured on 50+ TV and film productions, graced the lobbies of hotels from New York to Miami to Portland Oregon, and has been exhibited and collected worldwide.
