About the Item

This original mid-century modern abstract painting by acclaimed Taos artist Beatrice Mandelman (1912–1998) bursts with vibrant color and dynamic energy. Executed in acrylic on paper, the work features bold red, yellow, and blue fields, enhanced by expressive black lines that create striking geometric contrasts. The composition exemplifies Mandelman’s signature modernist style, blending geometric abstraction with a lively, emotive sensibility that captures the spirit of the Taos art scene. The painting’s image measures 9 ½ by 12 ¾ inches and is beautifully presented in a custom frame, with overall dimensions of 16 ½ by 19 ¼ by 1 ¼ inches. It comes with a letter of authenticity from the artist’s estate, ensuring its provenance and collectible value. About Beatrice Mandelman (1912–1998): A pioneering figure among the Taos Moderns, Mandelman was born in New Jersey and trained at the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, Rutgers University, and the Art Students League of New York, where she absorbed influences from Cubism and European modernism. In the 1930s, she honed her skills with the Works Progress Administration (WPA), mastering printmaking and early abstract techniques. In 1942, Mandelman and her husband, artist Louis Ribak, settled in Taos, New Mexico, helping to establish the town as a hub for modernist art. Her work is celebrated for its vivid color palettes, geometric forms, and expressive compositions, often described as a “primitive language” of squares, circles, triangles, and bold colors transformed into sophisticated modern art. Mandelman’s legacy is preserved in major collections, including the Harwood Museum in Taos, and her work continues to be sought by collectors of mid-century modern, abstract, and Taos Modernist art. This piece represents a museum-quality collectible, perfect for collectors seeking a vibrant, historically significant work by one of Taos’s foremost modernist artists.
