About the Item
This piece is made by casting Hydrocal FGR95 (a very hard plaster) on top of an oil clay pattern. Once cured, the oil clay is removed, then paint and brass leaf are applied to the surface. The piece is hung with an aluminum z clip. A foam core pattern will be included to aid with placement and install.
Painted in deep bold blue and gilded in brass this wall hung sculpture depicts a landscape at sunrise placed upon an inverted head. I started this piece right around the winter solstice, which in New England means darkness. It's also cold for a long time up here, way into spring. So a while back I stopped thinking about the temperature and focused more on the days getting longer. I pay attention to the light and it holds me till summer.

Ben Watkins was born in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1977. He holds a BFA from Murray State University and a MFA from Rhode Island School of Design, both degrees in furniture design. He current lives and works in Lincoln, Rhode Island. He has been exhibited nationally and is in both public and private collections.
