About the Item
From North to South is part of the Rush Hour series by Cuban artist Bernardo Navarro Tomas. Known for his geometric works, Navarro Tomas blends the cluster of figures into the buildings that make up this unique abstract cityscape. In the end, the huddled masses are indistinguishable from the physical landscape of a city. The figures walk from the top of the canvas to the bottom, portraying an Exodus-esque journey. It represents the constant migration and movement of people. In Navarro's case, he lives in Brooklyn but was born in Havana... the geography of his life being from the literal North and South.

Bernardo Navarro Tomás (Havana, Cuba 1977) is a self-taught artist who expresses himself through different materials and means. He currently lives and paints in Brooklyn, New York. In his early paintings, which earned him recognition in several museums and institutions of the city of New York, Navarro Tomás created works that focused on his life experience. In a deviation from the social issue, his current works have experimented with abstraction and collage when wanting to capture the energy of his current surrounding urban environment.
