I create places that do not exist yet seem familiar in their feel. Rather than taking what is there and breaking it into fragments, I take the fragments, the bits and the pieces of my experience in life, and put all of the broken shards together to make these new or future environments in which nature has prevailed. This piece was strongly influenced by the texture of my surface. What was flat canvas became this rolling texture over months of layering. The artwork is on gallery wrapped canvas and the painting continues around the sides. It comes ready to hang.
About the Artist
Brandon Moon’s abstract expressionist paintings are complex, tense, optimistic, impulsive, and psychedelic. Each piece depicts another world, or many worlds within itself. His work speaks to the complexity of society, and the overwhelming stimuli of the day to day in modern life. Living in a big city like New York can be both exciting and scary. Some days the city shines like a utopia, and other days you feel a degrading dystopian weight upon you. While many artists seek to simplify what they see and experience in the world, Brandon takes all of the information and unleashes it onto the canvas. Using a surrealist free-association technique, he takes us on a journey through his subconscious mind. Each mark leads to the next, and each painting is a continuation of the one before it. However, the work remains extremely precise and controlled, with bright colors and bold graphic shapes that are reminiscent of an 80’s street art style. The paintings change depending on the distance you view them at. They are entirely different works viewed 5 feet versus 10 feet away. Brandon approaches his art without hesitation, and in turn, he and his viewers are rewarded with discovery.
