About the Item
This artwork captivates with its striking color, seamlessly blending elements of sculpture and painting. The artist achieves a remarkable tension between flatness and depth, inviting the viewer to engage with its tactile illusion. Bold and assertive, the intense International Klein blue (IKB) evokes emotions tied to its color symbolism. The crumpled surface adds dynamic movement, creating shadows and highlights that play across the piece, enhancing its dimensional complexity. This work stands out for its innovative exploration of color and form, encouraging a deeper contemplation of art's boundary-pushing potential.

The connection between sculpture and functional design is the creation of engaging objects that are fashioned to be integrated into our world rather than put on a pedestal—the chair or table or sofa that both gets us to open our eyes to possibilities as well as providing the place for us to think, react, engage and respond. Part of this evolution is the deconstruction of our environment, our living space, in order to find the beauty and function in the essential—silencing the cacophony in our world of excess. The challenge is creating originality in the objects that we collide with every day, being freed from the expectation that comfort needs to be complicated. Through simplicity we find balance between the essential and the human need for inspiration.

"Crossland Puzzle" Abstract Oil Painting
By Doug Frohman
Located in Rye, NY
In 2008, the artist was well into his transition from having used brushes to his new mode, applying the paint using workmen’s cement trowels. He was focused on bold, gestural layering of the paint, representing a temporal sequence where elements are earlier or later in their development. At the same time, there are symbolic suggestions of natural elements; waterfalls, large branches, bold escarpments of rock as well as a crossword puzzle...

Born in Granville, France, on April 14, 1968, François Benoît-Lison began with a figurative approach, which gradually evolved into abstraction, first lyrical, then more contrasting, where black reigns supreme. Black is a sacred color, sometimes dark, sometimes dazzling, without limits, it can be dominant or gentle.
After acrylics and oils, bituminous pastes and inks opened another door, that of the abstract, much more profound and contemporary, with the possibility of working these materials in many aspects and forms.
Since the 1980s, the artist has been offering us works imbued with research, reflection and philosophy, charged with a strong, raw message, highlighting his thoughts and leaving an indelible imprint.
Abstraction is his adventure, his freedom, his struggle, his dreams, his rage, his solitude.
Works by Jackson Pollock, Caravaggio, Egon Schiele, Pierre Soulages and André Marfaing...
