Description & Uniqueness
“Okan soso oga” (translated as *The One True Leader*) is a striking composition from Bukola Orioye’s *Oju lari, but beneath the surface…* series. The piece uses layered silhouettes in bold blues, turquoise, and white to express individuality, strength, and unity in movement. Its flat yet dynamic forms suggest rhythm and resilience, giving the work an almost musical flow. What makes this piece special is the interplay of simplicity and depth: the absence of facial detail universalizes the figures, allowing viewers to project themselves into the narrative while the overlapping colors reveal hidden layers of identity and experience.
The painting is more than visual beauty—it’s an invitation to reflect on leadership, individuality, and the unseen energies that guide communities. Its conceptual depth, refined execution, and place within a growing, recognized body of work make it a valuable acquisition. Collectors are not only purchasing an artwork but also investing in the trajectory of an artist whose practice engages memory, culture, and healing.
The painting is in excellent condition: clean canvas, vibrant pigments, and well-stretched surface with no warping or cracks.
Created in 2025, the work belongs to Orioye’s ongoing exploration of silhouette-based compositions. The series revisits traditional African philosophies through a contemporary lens, focusing on how unseen realities shape the visible world. "Okan soso oga" emphasizes unity of spirit and strength of leadership, resonating with Yoruba wisdom embedded in its title.

Energy
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
Oladimeji Alabi, a Nigerian contemporary artist, created a thought-provoking artwork titled "Energy," which emphasizes the essence of energy, both positive and negative, according to African spirituality. The artwork is a vivid depiction of the concept of karma, which is fundamental to African spirituality, and the law of nature, which states that what you give out, you get back in turn.
The central piece of the artwork is a painting of a human figure, seemingly in a state of contemplation with her flowing hair.
"What you give out, you get back in turn." This phrase is a direct reference to the concept of karma, which is prevalent in African spirituality. Karma is the belief that our actions have consequences, and that every action we take has an effect on our lives and the lives of those around us.
Furthermore, the artwork emphasizes the importance of energy, both positive and negative, and how it affects our lives. According to African spirituality, everything in the universe is interconnected, and energy flows through all things. Positive energy is associated with good fortune, success, and happiness, while negative energy is associated with misfortune, failure, and sadness.
In conclusion, Oladimeji Alabi's artwork "Energy" is a beautiful and thought-provoking piece that embodies the essence of African spirituality. The artwork's central message of karma and the law of nature is a powerful reminder that our actions have consequences and that we must be mindful of the energy we put out into the world. The artwork is a testament to the artist's skill and creativity, and it is sure to leave a lasting impression on all who view it.
