About the Item
This modern geometric painting by Burton Kramer was inspired by music.
Burton Kramer is highly regarded as one of Canada’s finest graphic artists and designers. A modernist, Kramer’s paintings display bold graphic forms and bright colour palettes that often emulate the flow and rhythm of music. This vertical acrylic painting is filled with a variety of shapes—squares, rectangles, and triangles rendered in a bold palette of deep red, orange, pink, purple, yellow, green, lilac, blue, black and white that appear to float against a neutral backdrop.
As with all of Kramer’s work, there is visible movement in the dynamic flow of the composition. This piece is named after the music form called a rondo or what is commonly referred to as a refrain.

Burton Kramer was born in New York City in 1932. He is renowned for designing the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation logo in 1974. Kramer trained at Yale University (MFA), The Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology (BSc), The Royal College of Art, London (Fulbright Scholar) and The State University of New York. Kramer has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Arts Ontario, The Order of Ontario by the Province, an Honorary Doctorate from Ontario College of Art & Design and was named a Member of the Order of Canada. His work has been exhibited in galleries internationally and is held in many private and public collections.

Burton Kramer
Burton Kramer (b. 1932) explores the language of visual forms and sound. The artist trained at Yale University (M.F.A.), The Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology (BSc), The Royal College of Art, London (Fulbright Scholar) and The State University of New York. Kramer is one of Canada’s most influential graphic designers. He designed the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation logo in 1974. Kramer received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Art Directors & Designers Club, The Order of Ontario from the province, an honorary doctorate from Ontario College of Art & Design and was named a member of the Order of Canada. "Track Shift" is a striking modern geometric abstract painting, with a soft contemporary palette. It is painted directly onto panel, with a custom built wooden substrate. The sides show beautifully smoothed wood. Kazaan Viveiros has a background in architecture studies as well as fine art, and this shows in her clean and contemporary works.
Artist Kazaan Viveiros earned a BA with distinction from the University of Virginia in Studio Art and Religious Studies, and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.
She has since exhibited work in solo and group exhibitions in the U.S. and Europe, including solo shows in New York, San Francisco, Berkeley, Scottsdale, AZ, Richmond, VA, and Savannah, GA. In 2003, curator Raffaella Guidobono gave Viveiros a show at TAD Concept Store in Rome.
Viveiros’s paintings have been collected by a wide array of corporations, including eBay and Capital One Bank, as well as by individuals such as WalMart’s Rob Walton and novelist Danielle Steel. Her large diptych, The Whale, was purchased by Banner Children’s Hospital and currently hangs in their radiology ward. Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center in New Jersey has many of her works in their collection. In addition, five of Viveiros’s paintings were purchased by the Art in Embassies Program and are permanently installed in the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
