Carla White
Teal Expressions One, Original Contemporary Abstract Paint Pour on Wood Panel

2020

About the Item

Teal Expressions One, Original Contemporary Abstract Paint Pour, 2020 17" x 31" x 1.5" (HxWxD) Acrylic, latex, and resin on wood panel Hand-signed by the artist. This abstract work by artist Carla White features an undulating band of teal, rust red, and cream tones that blend into one another while remaining distinct. There is an ethereal quality to this work, perhaps in the ebb and flow of the paint across the wood panel, the balance of clean white as a backdrop, or maybe due to the soft fading in and out that happens at the colors' edges. Artist Commentary: Believe it or not, a blow dryer helped create the feathering of these beautiful colors! I have been experimenting with a variety of pour painting techniques and using a variety of unlikely tools, hence, the blow dryer, and mixing my own custom blended art mediums to create different looks. About the Artist: Carla White of C. White Designs started off in 2000 with a variety of artistic and creative expressions, such as, jewelry design, hand painted greeting cards, hand painted furniture, and a line of aromatherapy products which included her own unique label and packaging designs. Her designs have also been published as a freelance artist by the greeting card company Design, Design, Inc. Born and raised in Syracuse, New York, but currently living in Los Angeles, she is transitioning from functional art to fine art with a current exploration in Resin Art and Art Pours. Taking from the design elements present in her greeting cards, she is discovering how those translate onto larger pieces, as well as, exploring new and innovative ways to express her creativity with resin, wood, paints, inks and custom blended art mediums. Her current pieces are a personal experimentation in color, line, space and movement in combination with the dynamic and unpredictable nature of the materials and processes she uses. The paintings are left transfixed and the results are mesmerizing. Even dry, the images appear to be fluid and in motion.

Variations on Natural Occurrences 3

Artist Commentary: This painting is from my "Common Threads" series comprised of abstract paintings that metaphorically allude to the links, or threads, tying people, groups, and communities together across differences. We often find ourselves faced with addressing the differences between people, via identity, politics, economic stature, family origin, and more. Real entwined thread, or pulled lengths of wool, in the Common Threads paintings are a metaphor for commonly shared experiences bridging these different identity issues. Shared experiences bind people and their histories together in intimately interesting ways. I am working to use these links and metaphoric threads as a means to find common ground and harmony. Keywords: abstract, pastel colors, linear, lines, thread, calm, meditative, circles, pink, green, blue, ivory, antique white Details about the piece: - This is a hand painted, original painting - Created in Baltimore, Maryland, USA - Professional grade oil paints and ArtResin on wood panel - Other materials include professional grade watercolor, oil pastel, and thread - Wood Panel with Birchwood face and 1.5" Poplar wood cradle - Ready to hang with wires and D ring - Signed on the back - Certificate of authenticity and care sheet included with original Artist Biography: Farida Hughes’ lively and intriguing abstract paintings take their inspiration from the gathering and dispersing of crowds, group relationships, and shared histories and stories of people. She developed her abstract mixed media style, and methods of mixing oil paint with resin, after many years of painting with oil paint and experimenting with oil painting mediums. Hughes studied Studio Art and English at Fordham University in New York and received an MFA in Painting from the University of Chicago. Her work is exhibited widely in galleries and art centers and collected nationally. She is currently represented by Walker Fine Art...
