Cathryn Buckley Arcomano
Abstract Painting in Oil -- Etruria

1999

About the Item

This piece is a beautiful example of an abstract painting. The simplicity of the subject of the painting contrasted with the texture and color create intricacies in the piece. The gold surface of the painting creates the illusion of gilding in the pictorial space. The nuanced tones of pinks, beige, and orange add to the illusion. This work is framed in silver metal and is signed by the artist on the back. Cathryn Buckley Arcomano was born in Troy, NY, in 1923. In 1946, Cathryn Buckley graduated from the College of St.Rose in Albany; and began formal art studies through a St. Rose program at the University of Mexico in Mexico City. She returned to NY, and continued her art studies at The New School Art Workshops in NYC. Buckley Arcomano became an international artist, exhibiting in the USA and in England, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and Hong Kong. Her paintings have been acquired by museums, corporations, and private collections, including The Brooklyn Museum, The Newark Museum, the Everson Museum of Art, the Gannett Company, Nordstrom, Pfizer, and Skadden Arps Law. She died in 2012.
