In the Depths ''Al fondo''

The painting In the Depths unfolds with chromatic intensity and tactile expressiveness that immediately captures the gaze. Through generous layers of oil paint, the surface vibrates in a play of contrasts between reds, blues, and yellows, intersected by a dense dark mass that seems to either emerge from or sink into the composition. The texture, almost sculptural, transforms color into relief, suggesting movement and depth—as if the work invites the viewer to search for what lies beyond the visible, in the depths.
About the Artist
Celia Herranz (Celia Herr) was born in Segovia, Spain.
She holds a degree in Fine Arts with a postgraduate focus in Advertising Drawing. With over twenty years of experience as both an exhibiting artist and instructor, she has taught drawing and painting in art academies, schools, as well as privately to children and adults.
Her most recent solo exhibition took place at Palacio Quintanar in Segovia (November 29, 2024 – February 23, 2025), where she presented three lines of work:
Heavily textured oil paintings,
Black-and-white ink washes on paper, which she refers to as “skeletons of memory”,
Sculptures created from recycled glass, where she transforms everyday vessels—such as drinking glasses and perfume bottles—into totemic forms that juxtapose fragility with interior weight, engaging the viewer in reflective dialogue.
The hallmark of her work lies in her use of deep color, expressive brushwork, and the ability to transform observed reality into sculpted painting.
