About the Item
Alchemy IV by British artist Charlotte Aiken.
Charlotte's work centres on the notion of infinity, as exemplified by her representations of the sky. Her powerfully large-scale pieces allow her to work in an extremely physical manner and she prefers to use decorating brushes to apply the paint to accentuate imperfection and texture, recreating an impression of the sky rather than an accurate portrayal.
While atmospheric skies and cloud formations are what she has become known for, Charlotte Aiken has recently focused on a more abstract approach to her work, using a variety of mediums including gold leaf and copper.
Charlotte often sees the world through a viewpoint that to her can feel overexposed, pixelated and very vivid. She uses her paintings to comprehend what she observes; the layers of colour and circular motions are physical manifestations of what the world looks like through her eyes.
Aiken responds to her surroundings through the medium of paint - working on both large & small scales which allows her to capture the space and sublimity that nature provides.
