"Moon 2", Contemporary Abstract Nocturnal Landscape

2007

About the Item

"Moon 2", a bold contemporary small-scale abstract landscape scene by California artist Cheryl Petty (American, b. 1949). A nocturnal color palette of dark blues, violet, and forest green is highlighted with accents of light yellow dappled moonlight, which emanate from the full moon in the upper right corner. Signed "CW Petty" in the lower left corner. Titled "Moon 2", signed, and dated 2007 on verso. Presented in a simple wood frame with black edge. Panel size: 6"H x 8"W Cheryl Petty (American, 1949) (nee West) was raised in Southern California and moved to Los Angeles in 1967 to attend UCLA where she received her BA in painting. Petty was heavily involved in the Downtown Los Angeles art scene before relocating to Dunsmuir, California in 1992. Works from this period were shown at the Siskiyou Art Museum in Dunsmuir in September 2015. She continued to explore art, stimulated by the beautiful location in the Sacramento River canyon at the base of Mt. Shasta, and opened a gallery at the Window Box Nursery where she sold her landscape paintings and bonsai. As an artist and writer, Petty mastered story telling with plein air depictions of rural town life before gaining recognition as a journalist and user experience expert. Under the pseudonym Sha Li she has published three novels and is completing a fourth.

  • Dawn of a New Day, Moody Landscape Painting, Dartmoor Sky, Abstract Oil Painting
    By Sophie Berger
    Located in Deddington, GB
A gold-leaf landscape painting by Sophie Berger. This original oil painting on canvas board has the depth and moodiness of a Dartmoor sky as well as the vivid sunshine hiding beneath the clouds. This is captured by the iridescent glory of the gold leaf. When the viewer is moving around the room the reflection on the gold leaf changes the whole painting as it glows and reflects. Based on the ever changing skies in Devon where Sophie lives and works. New original artwork by artist, Sophie Berger is available with Wychwood Art in their gallery and online. Sophie Berger's recent work has been greatly influenced by her move to Devon and a new found love of the Dartmoor. She often sketches on the north moors and in Skaigh woods, taking in the mood of the sky, rolling hills and streams or concentrating on the intricate twisted branches and roots of the bracken. Sophie Berger's next stage is to recapture these sketches using oil paint when back at the studio in Kigbeare, thereby creating a strong connection between her work and the landscape. The changeable, moody landscapes...
