A painting from Chloe's "Excessivism" series where she explores the excessive use of paint to express her feelings about the current state of the world. The works are pure abstraction and usually often employ bright colors used in the commercial world. Brush strokes are impulsive and are left unaltered to capture her mood at the time of making.

About artist:
Born in Utah (USA), Chloe Hedden looks for the unseen patterns and hidden narratives that reveal the magnificence in all things. According to the artist, there is a still point in every moment and to capture this essential luminescence is what she aims for in her practice. Chloe makes use of archetypes from the cultural and mystical history to inform her work. It is through this inspiration that she created her latest body of work comprised of intricately folded Burlap wall sculptures. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design in 2002, Chloe's paintings and sculptures can be found in numerous public and private collections.

Chloe Hedden
I was born and raised in Utah's wild red desert, but have had the great fortune to call many amazing places around the world my home. A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, I am as comfortable painting large oils as I am illustrating children’s books. In 2007, I won an International Creativity award in the category of commercial illustration for “The Peaceful Warrior.” My first children’s book, “The Illuminated Desert,” written by Terry Tempest Williams and published by the Canyonlands Natural History Association in 2008, won The Mountains and Plains Bookseller’s Award for Best Children’s Book. My paintings and sculptures can we found in numerous public and private collections around the world.

This is a contemporary abstract painting by the New York/ Hawaiian artist, Debra Drexler. Debra Drexler is an American painter, installation artist, curator and professor. Her work is informed both by participating in the contemporary resurgence of abstraction coming out of New York, and by living in the Post Colonial Pacific since 1992. She has participated in over thirty solo and over 100 group exhibitions in national and international venues including Front Room Gallery, Exit Art, The Drawing Center, White Box-The Annex, Art Finance Partners, Van Der Plas Gallery, Sideshow Gallery, and Denise Bibro Gallery in New York, as well The Honolulu Museum of Art and Maui Arts and Cultural Center. Debra Drexler is a Professor at the University of Hawaii, where she is Chair of the Drawing and Painting Area. She maintains studios in Brooklyn, NY and on the island of Oahu in Hawai’i. Debra Drexler's most recent work is highly experimental large-scale abstract painting. In a recent review of a two-person exhibition (Whitehot Magazine,2017) Drexler's work as clearly referencing the long tradition of American abstraction and the established legacy of the New York School. The reviewer, Jonathan Goodman, described the work as a “new non-objectivity” that comes out of the current moment. He states that Drexler's painting “quite accurately describes the spirit of abstract art today, in which painting is struggling to break free of the constraints of time."
