About the Item
"Thalasso 4" is part of an on-going series of paintings by Chloe York centered around marine biology. Chloe’s work is flat and linear and always begins with a human head and shoulders. She call's the process "decorating", which is in her word “metaphorical for the way clothing and makeup prepare her for social interaction. These paintings are anthropomorphic portraits encrusted with oceanic and organic shapes and patterns, a nod to the decorator crab, which covers its body in bits of its surroundings for purposes of camouflage and self-preservation. The word "Thalasso" is an ancient Greek word meaning "sea".
This piece is primarily mint green and "seafoam" color. The faceless head is covered in marine-inspred abstractions that are reminiscent of coral beds and shells washed ashore.
Chloe York earned her BFA from Memphis College of Art in 2012. She has displayed her work in over 100 group and solo exhibitions throughout the mid-South.

Chloe York
Abstract painter, Chloe York earned her BFA from Memphis College of Art in 2012. She has displayed her work in over 100 group and solo exhibitions throughout the mid-South and her solo exhibit, Decorators was named one of Memphis’s top ten visual art exhibits for 2013. She was awarded Best in Show at the 2021 Magic City Art Connection in Birmingham, AL and has created work for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Chloe’s eye catching pieces draw their whimsical inspiration from the cherished seaside memories of her childhood. As a young girl, Chloe's family built and lived in a beach house in the Bahamas where she first discovered her love for the underwater world. Her family soon moved to the landlocked state of Kentucky where Chloe grew up, but they would always travel back to the shore a couple of times each year. Inspired by the colorful environment of tropical towns and nature's aquatic masterpieces, Chloe combined the beauty she saw around her with a bit of artistic magic and developed her charming visual vocabulary of saturated colors, meticulous patterns, and organic shapes. Chloe's paintings all start as a background of solid color, then she adds on the large shapes, and then finishes the piece off with small details and patterns. Layering is an important element of Chloe's work and allows her to create pieces that are harmoniously both dimensionless and elaborate. She currently resides in Birmingham, AL with sculptor, Eric Quick and ferocious daughter, Echo in their shared home and studio. "Her technique is meticulous, her sense of color superb, her thought processes both contemplative and provocative, and the pieces are imbued with beauty that is sometimes quiet, sometimes splashy. What more could a gallery owner or a collector ask for?" -Fredric Koeppel, Art Review, The Commercial Appeal "I was so captivated by the masterful use of pattern in her work as well as the contrast of her very scientific subject matter and playful, candied colors." -Amy Hartelust, fellow artist "Her work is alive with color, pattern, movement and an undeniable energy!" -Christian Nelius, interior designer "York is one of the best painters around, capable of handling the most intricate detail and maintaining an impeccable surface. Virtues enhanced by a fertile imagination." -Fredric Koeppel, Art Review, The Commercial Appeal

Located in Signal Mountain, TN
PWW-777 is part of Eric Mack's ongoing body of work utilizing multi-media, complex compositions, and a grid centered around urban design. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack has utilized Zerox copies adhered by a matte medium to create graphic imagery of electronics from the 90s, small bits of a map of various places in Germany, and vinyl records. Mack paints on top of a torn canvas, and on the edges you can see the frayed, painted canvas mounted to the white backing of the frame. The work is finished with glass that shows minimum reflection as well as a customized 2 inch, white frame.
Eric Mack (b.1976, Charleston) creates mathematically based renderings with a distinct post-modern twist. Works are informed with super imposed grids, patterns, and portals. Layered surfaces are created with paint, found objects, natural fibers, and synthetic substrates that explore the systems of our visual world.

Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters) Italian Expressionist Painting on Canvas
By Andrea Spinelli
Located in Firenze, IT
The present work of art titled "Urban Abstraction (ripped off posters)" is part of a series of paintings that the artist composed in the 1980s and 1990s inspired by the observation of the urban reality of those years.
The artist take the cue from his walks in Florence, both in the center and in the suburbs, and by the observation of billboards and posters scattered throughout the city.
The mass of information, colors, messages and words were carried on the canvas with acrylic colors, ideally reconstructing the tears and overlaps of all the information and advertising contained on these huge sheets of paper that invade our cities.
The geometric lines are overlaid with jagged lines, overlaps and color dripping and also the choice in the color palette, with different shades of white, gray, rose, orange red and blue helps in rendering the result of the tears and ripped paper.
The result is a beautiful multicolored modern abstract canvas, both aesthetically and ethically, with many rich layers of color, texture and expression in which the artist leaves his own message.
The painting is housed in a simple modern white lacquer wood frame.
