About the Item

"Fear Defeated Me, Yet Not in Faith and Not in Madness" by Chris Brandell – 60x60 Mixed Media on Canvas – $8100 An evocative exploration of emotion and resilience, Fear Defeated Me, Yet Not in Faith and Not in Madness by Chris Brandell is a stunning 60x60 mixed media masterpiece. This abstract composition weaves delicate layers of texture, raw gestures, and ethereal hues, inviting contemplation and introspection. Subtle yet powerful, this piece embodies the balance between vulnerability and strength, making it a profound statement in any contemporary space. Available now for $8100 – an extraordinary addition for collectors seeking depth and nuance in abstract art. The artist says: While I continue to be inspired by real, tactile items such as plaster, wire, and concrete, in this new work, I explored how I integrate in each piece the peaceful and edgy sides of my nature, and thus my different mark making processes which support those qualities. The nature of this exploration was personal, resulting in multiple inflection points within the range which signified moments of discovery. Some pieces are less textured than others while I struggled to let go of my prior process norms; some pieces added in new materials and tools to step into uncharted, even risky, experiences; and several pieces display words that harken to and lean heavily on my spirituality calling my peace back to the forefront. From the artist: I was excited to be on my quest, but the studio days were exhausting because of what I was letting rise to the surface. A quote by Rick Rubin sums up the body of work nicely: “Our opportunity is to practice. And what wants to happen, will happen”. The exploration exposed vulnerability which expanded the work in ways I couldn’t have predicted. The common result across the broad range of paintings is more intuitive marks while still retaining a minimal quality that resonates with who I am and the found objects that inspire me. I hope viewers will find connecting points throughout the paintings which inspire, facilitate, and honor their own authentic explorations. Born and raised in New Rochelle, New York, Chris evolved her work over the past two decades in her private studio in Vienna, Virginia. Her minimal abstract compositions - inspired by her consumption and study of random words and writing, music and lyrics, and deep meditation - explore powerful memories, visceral experiences and personal authenticity. Reflective of her edgy compositions, she applies mixed media in often non-conventional ways giving rise to compelling negative spaces, line work and oil color. Chris’ work has produced a variety of series over the years, all with the common thread of providing evocative moments to her viewers.

My Home Town by Judith Williams contemporary collage abstract on canvas
By Judith Williams
Located in Atlanta, GA
"My torn paper shapes are put together like large remains of sculpture being reassembled. My initial thoughts are on pure shape. The unusual shapes coming together in their raw simplistic form, how they interact with each other, the shapes creating their own language. I let them stand alone in their purest form. The way they come together in the space helps ground them, giving a friction of sorts, a system, a world built around the forms, a quiet place within. I love large inviting spaces, as if to say, “Come here, I’m here to comfort you.” I am creating a space where you find a soothing uncluttered balance. I want you to like the stillness there. So every piece of work has a piece of me in it, my personality, my love of spaciousness and calm. I am totally aware of every aspect of the work and in the moment, concentrating on that one moment in time—the Now. It is my desire that the sense of peace, harmony, and stillness is communicated to you." Judith Williams...
