His paintings are clearly handmade, yet give the impression of something technological and overwhelming: rushing, incessant information or vast cosmological phenomena. Gallagher deftly streams vibrating bands of color from edge to edge and implies an expansion beyond the boundaries of the canvas. In certain cases, the brilliant striations curve or gently arc as they radiate across the picture surface, bending as if under the influence of some force located beyond sight.
