About the Item
This abstract painting is what the artist refers to as, "a contemplation of the power and peace of the ocean." Colors of purple, sandy beige, sky blue and complementary orange are added in layers and later scraped back, in a process much like the rise and fall of a tide. The end result is a soft, serene painting with hits of shiny metallic highlights, and clear glass that looks like a calm ocean against the sky. This painting has clean sides and is wired and ready to hang.
Averill-Green has been exhibiting her artwork in galleries and museums in Upstate New York for over 40 years. She received her B.A. in Art and an M.S. in Art Education. Artists such as Richard Diebenkorn, Euan Eglow, Antonio Lopez Garcia, and her teachers Catherine Kehoe and Stanley Bielen have influenced Christine's artwork.
"Most of my work is influenced by medieval frescoes (the gold and color combinations) and Asian art (the simplicity)," Christine says of her work. "Above all, in every single painting I do, I abide by the words of Claude Monet: "When you go out to paint, try to forget what objects you have before you, merely think here is a little square of blue, here an oblong of pink, here a streak of yellow and paint it just as it looks to you."

Christine Averill-Green is a resident of the Capital District and has been exhibiting her artwork in galleries and museums in upstate New York for over 40 years. Averill-Green received her BA in Art with a double minor in music/theatre from Russell Sage College and then went on to receive her MS in art education from the College of Saint Rose. Artists such as Richard Diebenkorn, Euan Eglow, Antonio Lopez Garcia, and her teachers, Catherine Kehoe and Stanley Bielen, have influenced her artwork.
