About the Item
From my childhood, I keep an intact memory of my passages in Arles and my first courses in visual art where we study: Vincent Van Gogh, today, March 30, 2018, would have been 165 years.
On our arrival, late at night, there was this sunny night light that we can guess in his nocturnal paintings. During our strolls in the rising streets towards the arena, with each step this question arose: is it passed here? Where am I?
Arles is the beginning of his end of life, his quarrel with Gauguin, this pistol shot, then this "slicing of the ear". At each street, the dreamy child that I was felt his energy, that of the genius artist but also the man prone to madness.
This brings me to these two "ear-cut portraits". These are the thoughts that accompanied me when I worked these two paintings, taking care not to forget this child who, at each visit in this city, breathed the same air as Vincent Van Gogh.
