About the Item
Widely exhibited and collected from Cornwall to Scotland and New Zealand to the USA, Clare works from the beautiful Porthmeor Studio on the Atlantic coast of Cornwall, UK. Her work has a wonderful sense of immediacy and is generally vibrant with colour and depth, in keeping with her location. These paintings will add a pop of form and colour to the wall and warm any space they occupy.
Gestural abstract painter in whose work subtle colour harmonies and sensual textures were important. She was born in Yorkshire and gained a fine art painting honours degree from Exeter College of Art and Design, 1982. She was at Spacex Studios, Exeter, 1982–6, moving to Edinburgh in 1988. From 1988–90 she was a member of the collective Gallery there; was painter-in-residence, Grizedale, Cumbria, for the first half of 1993; then in 1994–6 managed the Kingfisher Gallery, Edinburgh (having been part-time, 1991–4). Exhibitions included Abstract into Reality, Exeter University, 1983; Visitors 85, Penwith Gallery, St Ives, 1985; Woman 2000, Gatehouse Gallery, Glasgow, 1990; and Scottish Contemporary Painters and Printmakers, Beatrice Royal Gallery, Eastleigh, 1997.
