Cody Hooper
Im a professional American Abstract Artist of over 12 years with a background in architecture, design, color theory and realism using all mediums. My main passion now is abstraction with acrylic and oil on custom built wood panels. Ive always loved the freedom and emotions in abstract (which are very mood driven) and I take 10 hour blocks to create in with a very methodical approach..think of a surgeon going into a long procedure. I have always taken my creative time this seriously and like to turn off my phone, turn on some music and just get lost for the moment. I have a lot to communicate into my art and I like that to be fresh so I tend to create a bulk of the work in a single setting. I also work fasted and treat my art as a meditative practice, which I think you will see in the finished pieces. The mind and spirit work more clearly this way and allows your brain to think in a more constructive yet primitive way. My studio overlooks the hill country and I have lots of deer playing outside of my window but my favorite time to create is when it's raining outside, which it does here often. Most of my inspiration comes from family, nature and music. I painted landscapes and organic subject matter before I went into abstraction so you can see my use of light and depth which isn't that common in modern art. The pictures sadly never do my art justice but in the flesh you really get a sense of this depth and lots of interest with the organic textures and movements. I love working the layers, edges and surfaces, pouring my spirit into each piece. Making an original Hooper undeniable and truly unique. An interesting element to some of my work is my Japanese, calligraphy inspired gesturing. This is just a made up, reactive expression that gives the illusion of writings. It adds a lot of character and relaxed energy to a painting so I started introducing in when it made sense. You'll see by my styles that I'm continuously changing and exploring. As an artist you should always do this and keep expanding and pushing your abilities and comfort zones if you want to remain excited and interested in what you create. My main representing galleries art now in Austin and Sedona and I have always had a good presence in respect to showcasing art in this way. I lived and showed in Santa Fe for about 10 years and captured some really well know collectors from the likes of Taylor Swift to Quentin Tarantino.
