The first of artist Courtney Jacobs's five-piece series titled Flazoops. This collection of dynamic abstracts utilizes a gestural and vibrant approach. Incorporating energetic motion through several different ways of paint application. "The colors and movement evoke a sense of drama," says Courtney.
About the Artist
Courtney Jacobs creates what she calls a "personal language" through her use of color, texture, composition and action. "If the painting inspires you, or sets a particular mood, or makes you feel free and playful, then I have accomplished my job," she says. She enjoys listening to a wide variety of music while she paints, from Richard Wagner to Nine Inch Nails. The Abstract Expressionism movement and action painters greatly influenced her work. During her free time, she enjoys playing the piano and singing.

About the Artist
Joey Korom is an abstract expressionist painter who has been a practicing artist for 50 years. He experiments with media, colors, and textures to produce artwork that is “purely optical;†that is, artwork meant to engage the viewer, visually and emotionally, without employing any associations outside of the work itself. Joey is passionate about this expressive type of abstraction, an artistic mode that escapes the rules of perspective and realism. His educational and professional background is in architecture, which he considers to be “the father of all arts.†The use of line, shape, and proportion in Joey’s work is visibly influenced by his experience as an architect, but he seeks to avoid the rigidity involved in architectural draftsmanship. He focuses instead on underlying structure, seductive color, and loose brushwork. The artist sees his style as a personal liberation from the demands of architectural drawing, and yet, he’s never lost the disciplines he was taught.

Pat, who lives on the Atlantic Ocean in Massachusetts, uses a neutral palette to present her interpretation of the world around her– from marshes and mountains to stones and spiderwebs. She is drawn to pattern and design, both of which influence the use of balanced repetition in her work. Pat’s muted colors invite pensive meditation, while her deliberate use of line guides the eye through satisfyingly symmetrical compositions.
