About the Item
A contemporary take on Vincent Van Gogh's most famous painting "Starry Night". Darius Yektai, a contemporary painter based in New York's beach enclave The Hamptons, uses resin along with oil paint to recreate the masterful composition from the late nineteenth century. Yektai first paints the canvas in rich deep greens, and blues to create that base for the landscape. Then he pours a clear-grade liquid resin onto the painted canvas and lets it harden into a glassy surface. Then he paints in pointilist brushstrokes, connecting colors into forms, in the typical impressionist style.
This process allows for a more three-dimensional experience of the Starry Night. One can see through layers which build-up to create the flurry of brushstrokes. The reflective surface makes space for the viewer to see themselves in the painting, looking back at them. A contemporary notion.
The painting is unframed. The edges allow the viewer to inspect the materials built upon the canvas.
Artist Bio
Darius Yektai was born in Southampton NY, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. He grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American Mother, and his Father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the US after the Second World War, was a prominent Hamptons AbEx painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his-own.
Darius' most recent body of work is bright, colorful, with oil and acrylic paints laid on thick. He's creating sculptural paintings that can't be read from left to right, they need to be examined from surface to base, from section to section, and then overall as an encompassing whole.

Darius Yektai
Darius Yektai was born in Southampton, New York, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. Darius grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American mother and his father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the United States after the Second World War. Manoucher was a prominent Hamptons Abstract Expressionist painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his own.
