About the Item
A large scale oil painting by Darius Yektai. An extension of Yektai's popular "Waterlily Series" this painting examines the reflection of a ponds surface, with hanging willow tree branches. Bright pink sunset reflection meets bright pale blue of the sky, and the darker blue connotes depths of the pond. The still life of a blue vase of flowers atop a metal stool, reminds us of the artist in his studio, painting what;s in front of him. A traditional still life placed atop an abstract landscape, and executed with thick gobs of oil paint, this tactile painting is a feast for the eyes.

Darius Yektai was born in Southampton, New York, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. He grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American Mother and his Father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the US after the Second World War and was a prominent Hamptons AbEx painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father, but pushes even further into what is now completely his own.
Darius's most recent body of work is bright and colorful, with oil and acrylic paints laid on thick. He's creating sculptural paintings that can't be read from left to right; they need to be examined from surface to base, from section to section, and then overall as an encompassing whole.

Darius Yektai
Darius Yektai was born in Southampton, New York, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. Darius grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American mother and his father, Manoucher Yektai, an Iranian who emigrated to the United States after the Second World War. Manoucher was a prominent Hamptons Abstract Expressionist painter. Darius has picked up some traits from his father but pushes even further into what is now completely his own.
