About the Item
Argive is a contemporary abstract oil painting by David Richardson. It is part of the Trojan War series, inspired by Homer's Iliad. Argive means relating to the Greeks from the city of Argos, in the Peloponnese, that sieged Troy during the mythical Trojan War. The piece's oranges contrast the bright purple, representing two opposing sides going into battle. The chessboard pattern represents a battlefield on which soldiers either fall or become heroes.
Artist Biography:
David Richardson is from Waterford, Michigan. He was taught to draw and paint by his mother, an artist and art teacher. Richardson studied biology and art while attending Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas. His primary medium is oil, and he also works in acrylic and metal. Richardson became a Colonel during his time in the US Marine Corps, an experience he draws inspiration from to create his artwork. He also marries images from the epics of Homer into his work, creating truly haunting abstracts.
Colonel David Richardson was born in Michigan and is currently based in Arlington, VA. He was taught to paint by his mother, an artist and teacher, in his youth. Richardson draws inspiration from his experience in the US Marine Corps and Homer's Iliad to create his works. A master of oil painting, Richardson also works in acrylic and metal.
