About the Item
Briseus- Achilles Prize is a contemporary abstract oil painting by David Richardson. It is part of his Trojan War series, inspired by Homer’s Iliad. In the epic, Briseus was a beautiful woman who was taken as a prize by Achilles, but taken once again by King Agamemnon, sparking the dispute between the two great men. The striking contrast between the two sides of the painting represents the struggle between the men, as well the internal struggle of violence and purity within the poor woman.
Artist Biography:
David Richardson is from Waterford, Michigan. He was taught to draw and paint by his mother, an artist and art teacher. Richardson studied biology and art while attending Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas. His primary medium is oil, and he also works in acrylic and metal. Richardson became a Colonel during his time in the US Marine Corps, an experience he draws inspiration from to create his artwork. He also marries images from the epics of Homer into his work, creating truly haunting abstracts.
Colonel David Richardson was born in Michigan and is currently based in Arlington, VA. He was taught to paint by his mother, an artist and teacher, in his youth. Richardson draws inspiration from his experience in the US Marine Corps and Homer's Iliad to create his works. A master of oil painting, Richardson also works in acrylic and metal.
