Oil Paint
Following a tour in Iraq, Richardson was posted to Seoul Korea for two years. There, he saw how the Koreans used large, brightly colored neon signs to mark their churches at night. Because Seoul is a city surrounded by mountains, the neon crosses topping the churches in the hills are a prominent part of the nighttime landscape; the Resurrection Series draws on this.
David Richardson’s paintings reinforce myth as the universal blueprint we all live by. His work is a visual journal seen through the lens of Jungian archetypes, mythology, and symbols. Love, combat, religion, uncertainty, celebrity, and confusion at cultural fault lines inform Richardson’s work. Taught by his mother and brother, both artists, his medium ranges from oil and acrylic on canvas, to charcoal on paper, to buckshot applied to corrugated tin or plywood with a .12-gauge shotgun. From portraiture to abstraction, he reaches across art forms to express the pressure of the past and the vacuum of the future that myth captures. In work inspired by Homer, symbols garnered from his travels, and the emerging impact of Artificial Intelligence on mankind, Richardson claws at the unyielding and necessary grip myth still holds on a globalized and capitalized world.
Colonel David Richardson was born in Michigan and is currently based in Arlington, VA. He was taught to paint by his mother, an artist and teacher, in his youth. Richardson draws inspiration from his experience in the US Marine Corps and Homer's Iliad to create his works. A master of oil painting, Richardson also works in acrylic and metal.

If the Two Realities Are Thus Brought Together
By Jessica Houston
Located in Montreal, Quebec
A group of figures heads for icy distant mountains. A familiar enough scene of polar explorers hauling their sledges. Yet somehow this does not quite fit the heroic mold. The ice and sky are tinged a movie musical pale blue and their gear is a bit too colorful for the era of man-hauling. And then there’s the sled, piled high not with boxes of supplies but with a jumbled heap of antiquities: Greek Athenas, bits of a coliseum, a ship’s great wheel. In Jessica Houston’s collage “The Long Haul,” the explorers drag history itself into the great beyond, their backs turned from their absurd load. But we take in the entire scene.
In her suite of works, Over the Edge of the World, Houston uses oil on wood, ink on paper, and collages of found images, many from National Geographic Magazine, to rearrange the evidence – and thus history’s possibilities.
Houston joins visual artists such as Judit Hersko, Katja Aglert, and Isaac Julien...
