About the Item
Dawn Arrowsmith’s paintings are meditations in color. It has been said that each is a kind of minimalist luxury – pure, distilled, economical, but also rich, luscious, erotic. Her work is intuitive, greatly influenced by Buddhist philosophy and by her travels to the Far East. Arrowsmith creates a stunning optical effect with her application of paint - the result of which is the appearance of a halo of color around the painted image. This halo appears after the viewer gazes at the center of the work continuously for a brief period of time and then takes a step backward. This visual phenomena further enhances the meditative quality of these paintings, inviting the view to actively engage with the work.
