About the Item

Deborah Lanyon Lake Original Painting Size: H 100cm x W 150cm Sold Unframed Please note that in situ images are purely an indication of how a piece may look. This painting was inspired by my many walks to Bushey Park during Lockdown. The lake was rich in colour from the reflections of large shrubs that surrounded its borders. This allowed me to use warm rich colours in the work. The translucent beauty of the water that was constantly moving and gave me the challenge of keeping the paint fluid and open. Deborah Lanyon is a Twickenham based artist. I have been painting since the age of fifteen. I trained in the late seventies at St Martins and The Byam Shaw School of Art. I have had many exhibitions in and out of London, including Art First in Cork street and more recently The Jenny Granger gallery in Whitstable. I have sold paintings to private collectors and companies including The Glass House restaurant in Kew, The Square restaurant in Bruton Street and The Park Lane hotel. My work is primarily in acrylic. I work on large scale abstract landscapes. I like to emphasize both structure and colour in my compositions. Artists who I admire and have influenced my work include many of the St Ives artists, namely, Roger Hilton, Patrick Heron and Ben Nicholson. From Hilton, I learned the importance of mark making, from Heron colour and from Nicholson the significance of structure in holding a painting together. Size: H:100 cm x W:150 cm

Push, Deborah Lanyon,
By Deborah Lanyon

I often use collage or other mixed media. I favour acrylic, a quick-drying medium, to make the collage adhere to the surface of the canvas. I tend to work rapidly and very physically, with the canvases positioned on the floor, checking them periodically by raising them onto a wall or easel. Given the large scale on which I work (I regularly produce paintings which are six or even eight feet by four), 1 find that working on the floor is the best means to ensure a dynamicapplication of the paint. At this preliminary stage, the process of composition is more visceral and intuitive; when the canvas is raised, I work more intellectually, to check and shape the direction that the painting has been taking. These are quite separate ‘moments’ which I compare to chess; on the floor I ‘attack’ the object from an emotional stance; when the painting is vertical, I enter a mode of ‘defence’, editing what has gone before. In recent years, I have had solo shows with James Colman...

River. Original Statement painting, Contemporary art, Abstract Style art
Located in Deddington, GB
Original abstract oil painting on canvas, layers of dark blue space, anchored by bright pink, orange and white. Inspired by the Cornish coastal path in Zennor. Kelly Washbourne, contemporary painter, available online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Kelly Washbourne’s work is of immeasurable depth, texture and colour. Every canvas represents its own journey as paint is layered and balanced to create exquisite colour relationships, provoking both thought and emotion. Taking months to complete, each piece becomes an evolving record of the painting process offering glimpses into the hidden history of its creation. She is known for the bold expression of her large pieces which are full of texture, energy and vibrancy. Her small canvases, which have become popular exhibited in grids, offer an endless variety of shades and brush strokes and create a unique artwork with every composition. Graduating from Falmouth University in 2002 with a BA Hons in Fine Art, Kelly finds her inspiration in the freedom, bravery and liberty of The New York School artists. Expressionists of the 1940s and 50s such as Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning and Helen Frankenthaler incite confidence in her use of paint. She also draws reference from the beautifully energised artistry of Gillian Ayres and Peter Lanyon. Contemporary artists such as Cecily Brown and Rose Wylie...

Early Morning, Original Abstract Expressionist Painting, Affordable Artwork
By Janet Keith
Located in Deddington, GB
Early Morning is an original abstract painting by Janet Keith. The painting is full of lively marks, layers of transparent wash and areas of opacity. The colours are muted with warm earth tones. It is perhaps evocative of soft early morning light, mist rising from fields or water, the call of a solitary bird across an expanse. Janet Keith paintings available online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Janet is an award winning contemporary painter based in the U.K. Her painting is a response to the visual excitement and beauty of her surroundings. Her artistic roots are in outdoor painting...
