24" x 24" x 1.5" (HxWxD) Oil and Cold Wax on Panel
This square-format work by artist Denise Presnell brings a large dose of color and abstraction into any room its placed in. This colorful panel features a vibrant aquamarine blue green that stands in stark contrast to the bold red, orange, and yellow that are layered in on the left side of the composition. There is an expressive energy to the composition, giving the work a refreshing and powerful quality. By combining large sections of color that overlap one another with smaller moments of texture, Presnell has created a complex composition that moves the viewer's eyes around.
Artist Commentary:
My work explores the imprint of past paintings on a new work - literally. I paint over older paintings but leave the texture of original work to express the relationship old has with new.
About the Artist:
Denise Presnell is a painter/mixed media artist currently living and working in Sheboygan, WI. She earned her BFA in Printmaking from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and her MFA in Painting from the Pennsylvania State University. Graduate school was followed by 31 years of teaching art on the college/university level. 27 of those years were spent teaching art at Lakeland College – now Lakeland University. Denise’s work has been exhibited in over one hundred solo, group, and competitive exhibitions across the United States as well as exhibitions in Tokyo, Botswana, Kenya, and Shanghai. Her work is currently on view in the Coconino Arts Center exhibition - NightVisions 2022 and 3 Square Art's exhibition, Color 2022.
