About the Item
Dennis Alter's layered and textured oil on canvas paintings abstract expressionist drip paintings in the style of Jackson Pollock are rich with painterly activity. Gestural brushwork, heavy impasto, and layers upon layers of color lend a complexity to each work that invites multiple approaches to viewing. Alter's experimental use of painting tools and techniques -- scraping, carving, impressing, dripping -- play an important role in the process of discovery. He describes this effect in "Betelgeuse":
