From DL Watson's Hidden Thoughts series, created using a layering technique where the painting transforms from complex to more simple. The underpainting is very busy with patterns and color and expression. As DL worked, she quieted the piece by covering up certain areas that did not work for her. The final composition is a balanced series of layers and mark making.
About the Artist
DL Watson creates semi-abstract paintings with floral and botanical references. Splitting her time between Florida and Oregon, she finds inspiration in the patterns that repeat themselves throughout the natural world. While her paintings are often grounded in her own childhood memories and past experiences, they evoke a beauty that is universal in their natural subject matter. She creates interest and intrigue through the color and movement that she uses to balance her composition.
