About the Item
Light'n'Lines No.28 is a unique oil on Alu-Dibond painting by contemporary artist Doris Marten, dimensions are 60 × 120 cm (23.6 × 47.2 in).
The artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The visual effects produced by the harmony between light and colour are explored in Doris Marten's work. Similar to other series, the paintings' primary elements are lines and light. However, a temporal idea that highlights the artist's earlier works enriches the Light'n'Lines series. Time, which is essential to the development of the work, is the raw material for this series. The identical parallel lines that make up the painting personify the temporal dimensions (past, present, and future) as they were being created. Through ongoing experimentation with colour, the artist gives her creations a metaphysical quality.
With the simple use of lines Doris Marten explores the perception of colours and their influence on each other. Line reveal colours individually and they bring to life the effect of one colour upon another. The artist has developed a thorough knowledge of colours which allows her to create optical illusions, impressions of movement and intense variations of light.

Doris Marten
Doris Marten’s paintings explore the perception of colours and their mutual influence, immersing the viewer in an abstract geometric world. She uses lines that reveal colours individually and bring to life the effects of their juxtapositions. The artist has developed a thorough knowledge of colours which allows her to create optical illusions, impressions of movement and intense variations of light. From the beginning of the 2000’s, her work has been regularly exhibited in Germany and elsewhere in the world (United States, Europe). Two of her works have been included in the German Bundestag collection. “Time is a material that is necessary to create my paintings. Line by line, they are created in a concentrated process that has much in common with the activity of writing or even telling a story.’’

Breathing Space for Agnes - large, bright, yellow, stripes, acrylic on canvas
By Milly Ristvedt
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Vertical stripes of buttercup yellow and cloud blue are each separated from the other by a mere whisper of white canvas. The verticals appear to breathe rhythmically against the picture plane in this homage to American painter Agnes Martin. They evoke Martin's delicate, meticulously penciled grid works and her pursuit of inner peace.
Milly Ristvedt, MA, RCA, began her career in Toronto in 1964 after studies with Takao Tanabe at the Vancouver School of Art. At 24, her work was included in the Centennial Exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario...
