About the Item
Doyle Gertjejansen lives and works in New Orleans. His work has been exhibited in numerous one-person and group exhibitions and is included in public, private, and corporate collections throughout the United States and Europe.
He has been creating large scale mixed media abstractions for over four decades and has received numerous grants, awards, and honors including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in painting.
Doyle Gertjejansen’s paintings focus on layers of imagery drawn from sources in and outside of art, including his personal history, the history of art, contemporary philosophy, science, and other disciplines.
While fundamentally abstract, his paintings also reference the disparate elements we encounter in our lives as we seek to translate our experience into a personal view of the world that is at once sensual and understandable.
Gertjejansen’s primary body of work also includes drawings and works on paper, sculpture, and installations.
