A hazy dream-like scene with riders on horseback blurred in a mirage. The pale yellow of the dessert wafts up - almost like flames - lapping at the horses' legs, while cool blues rain down to offer the riders respite. "In a true exploration of paint working its own magic, these mounted riders are made with drips of paint that are then connected or partially painted out," says artist Elliot Coatney.

About the Artist
Artist Elliot Coatney creates warm, impressionist landscapes inspired by his surroundings in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. He began drawing and painting in watercolor at a young age under the direction of his grandmother, an amateur painter. Throughout his school years, he learned the art trade as a studio assistant for a local painter. Today, he works from a home studio in the mountains with old warped hardwood floors covered in paint splatters. "It's cramped and cluttered, but somehow there's always room for me and my children who love to join me with their paints and brushes and other creative projects," says Elliot. His artwork has been featured in juried shows throughout the southeast, including at the North Carolina Museum of Art and the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild.
