About

'Untitled No 111', acrylic on canvas — 76 x 68 inches — 1988.
A masterful, late Elmer Bischoff abstract acrylic painting with sweeping brush strokes in mostly peach, red, green and stripes of blue. from this 1st generation and most influential Bay Area Figurative painter and beloved teacher. The artist called works from this series of pure abstract paintings that were created late in his life, "happy disasters", likening the experience of the making, and viewing, to free association jazz music.

Many of the "First Generation" artists in this movement were avid fans of Abstract Expressionism, and worked in that manner, until several of them abandoned non-objective painting in favor of working with the figure. Among these First Generation Bay Area Figurative School artists were: Elmer Bischoff, David Park, Richard Diebenkorn, Rex Ashlock, Wayne Thiebaud, and James Weeks. Later (2nd generation) Joan Brown, among others, and (3rd generation) Kim Frohsin, among others.

The painting comes stretched and framed in an artist fabricated light hardwood period frame . A truly beautiful and historic work of art filled with energy and zest
