Description: "Leading In + Out 4 Roundabout" is a hypnotic exploration of movement and form. Concentric circles of pastel pink, purple, and aquamarine appear to ripple outwards, like the aftershocks of a pebble dropped into water. Each ring is delicately lined with contrasting black structures, weaving intricate paths that curve and intersect, creating a sense of dynamism and flow.
At the center lies a burst of warm red tones, adding focus and vibrancy amidst the cooler blues, greens, and earthy browns. The artist’s layering of color and the addition of small golden-yellow dots create a sense of connectivity, leading the eye both into and out of the piece—just as the title suggests.
The organic curves of the surrounding forms suggest both natural and surreal elements, inviting viewers to lose themselves in its intricate details. It is an evocative, playful meditation on pathways and connections.

Elvic Steele
Elvic Steele was British female artist who grew up in the countryside and developed a lifelong passion for nature. She became an experienced biologist and botanist as well as a keen gardener. Her interpretation of plants in her art, the attention to detail reveals the depth of her knowledge of nature. Steele spent all of her adult life teaching in various schools near her home in Essex. In 1946, she was awarded a sabbatical to attend the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing at Benton End in Suffolk, run by Sir Cedric Morris. It was in Morris' garden at Benton End that she found a great deal of her inspiration and continued studying and painting there until the 1970s. Steele's work was regularly shown at the Colchester Art Society Exhibition and she also had a solo exhibition in 1960 when she was in the Isles of Scilly. On returning to Great Dunmow in Essex in 1963, she took evening classes at the Dunmow Art Group meetings. There, she exhibited in the Art Group's Exhibition and in villages in the district. Whilst living in Royal Leamington Spa (1984-88) she had two solo exhibitions at the Royal Spa Centre and also showed at the Leamington Spa Art Gallery and Museum. At this time, she also sent a number of paintings to the Benton End Group Exhibition in Essex.

Bernard Segal was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and attended Cincinnati University and the Cincinnati Art Academy. He was known for figure, abstract painting, collage, and cartoon illustration.
In the 1920's and 30's, he lived in NYC and attended The Art Students League where he was creative with a number of artistic styles of the period. During WWII, he worked as a cartoonist for a government issued newspaper called 10-SHUN that was published in Greensboro, NC. Bernard worked under the pen name Seeg, and was the author of the comic strip "Hank and Honey," that appeared in the New York Herald Tribune from the 1940's through the 50's. This cartoon was syndicated and published in Quebec under the title "Louise et Louis." The strip was later retitled to Ellsworth. Segal also illustrated a number of Jewish books that were published by the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, and Bible stories.
In the 1950's Segal moved to Bucks County, Pennsylvania, and became a member of the New Hope Modernists. He worked with esteemed artists such as George Nakashima, Charles Evans, Louis Stone, Lloyd ney, josef Zenk, Clarence Carter and Charles Ramsey.

From the artist: "Gender and power are core concepts in my work. I’ve spent two decades in “The Classic City” (Athens, Georgia), surrounded by a dual Greek culture. Fraternities and sororities separate students by gender and play a part in cementing gender roles and power structures for the next generation; ubiquitous Classical architecture (often accompanied by manicured landscape) is a constant reminder of Western ideals.
After a career of painting the female figure and exploring themes related to the male gaze and the lingering inequalities that women face, I’ve focused the past five years on the male figure and his domain. My education was dominated by Western art history, where women were seen as muses; I’m reversing this traditional dynamic between the male artist/intellectual and his female subject.
I create tiny “plays” with handmade props and puppet plasticine figures to reenact imagined dramas that might happen on any given home game day...
