2021

About the Item

Available at Madelyn Jordon Fine Art. 'Shelter Island' by Eugene Healy, 2024. Oil and mixed media on canvas, 32.62 x 18.62 in. / Frame: 33.5 x 19.5 in. This landscape painting features an abstracted seascape with land, sea, and sky and the artist incorporates sections of texture and relief with the use of fabric collage. Colors are in cobalt blue, light blue, grey, orange, and white. Framed in a light wood frame. American artist, Eugene Healy is an abstract artist who grasped the concept of 'significant form', coined by art critic Clive Bell. Many of Healy's meticulous collage paintings are abstractions of beach and shore scenes of Connecticut and New England being places that have evoked particular moods and feelings in him. His mediums range from oil, watercolor, encaustic, oil crayon, lacquers, colored pencil applied to fragments of canvas, boards, and paper. Healy's early primary influences were Matisse, Vermeer, Diebenkorn, Rauschenberg, Hoffman, and the Fauve painters. Starting in 1967, he began a long exhibition record with galleries and art museums throughout the country. He studied painting at the New York Institute of Technology and earned his B.F.A. in 1972. He also served as a curator, beginning in the late 1970s, when he conceived and organized the popular traveling exhibition, 'American Vision', which was launched at New York University. Later, he served as Director of the National Artists’ Alliance, and as Exhibition Designer for the Yale Center for British Art.

Little Pattern Green - Colorful Geometric Abstract Painting
By Petra Rös-Nickel
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Petra Rös-Nickel’s original paintings merge playful forms, bright colors and architectural compositions in oil and mixed media on canvas. Her contemporary artworks contain rich textures and patterns, referencing popular European textile design of the fifties and sixties. Rös-Nickel’s work translates the geometric and organic elements of an era which hoisted the flags of modernism and which, due to a trend to return to a rather retro style, has become topical once more. This colorful 28 inch high by 16 inch wide contemporary oil painting can be installed horizontally or vertically. The sides of this artwork are painted and it does not require framing. This one-of-a-kind painting is signed by the artist on the back. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Petra was born 1963 in Wathlingen near Celle, Germany, and breaks completely new ground with her abstract forms of painting and expression. After studying fashion design at the professional school for clothing in Bremen, 1980, Petra Rös-Nickel changed her field of study to architecture in Eckernförde, 1982. She now lives in Hamburg, Germany. Preferring the creative aspects of the studies to the technical ones, the artist developed the basics of her painting, never denying the roots of applied design and soon ending in a refreshing, distinctive style. Petra Rös-Nickel experiments with form, along with the use of a technique that draws attention to the processes used in creating a painting. Essential is the color space presented in multiple layers that offers the beholder access to more profound color planes. These details, scratchings, and rubbings lead to various elements of tension, such as “patchwork” or harmonious-contemplative forms (“windows”) and “oscillating lines”. Rös-Nickel's modernist paintings develop an energetic impact on the space they‘re displayed in, conveying her joy of life and self-confidence. Her abstract geometric textured artworks have been exhibited and collected worldwide, including Germany, Belgium, USA, Canada, Singapore and Hong Kong. Notable collectors include Chris Rock...

'Subliminal' Colorful Mixed Media Contemporary Abstract by Steven H. Rehfeld
By Steven H. Rehfeld
Located in Carmel, CA
This 20" x 30" contemporary abstract mixed media piece by Steven Rehfeld is a captivating exploration of form, color, and texture. The composition features a harmonious blend of soft pastel hues — calming blues, delicate pinks, and mellow yellows — juxtaposed against more assertive tones of deep magenta, vibrant orange, and charcoal gray. The painting showcases Rehfeld's signature style of blending geometric shapes, notably triangles and circles, with freer, more organic brushstrokes. The added depth is achieved through the inclusion of mixed media elements: fragments of paper with faint sketches, scribbles, and translucent overlays create a multidimensional visual experience. The smoky, sinuous black mark towards the center adds a hint of dynamism, while the layered application of paint and paper produces a tactile richness, making the piece an engaging visual journey. Steven is now one of the top emerging artists in the U.S. His works are groundbreaking, bold, and imbued with unflinching disregard for painting conventions. Many works are in collections and museums in the U.S. Steven is also part of the 'Outsiders' school of art, originating in France in the 19th century. Also known as the Naïve movement, and was comprised of people with no art training at all, who suddenly started to paint. Many of them are from very challenging backgrounds. All they had was talent that had never before been tapped. In no time this movement became a significant art phenomenon and spread all over the world. His work, however, has branched out past the movement and his use of earth elements renders a basic and raw interpretation of his message. Original, 1-of-1. Shown at the American Art Gallery, Carmel-By-The-Sea, California. Keywords: colorful, mixed media, contemporary, abstract, expressionism, blue, pink, yellow, magenta, orange, grey, Steven H...
