About the Item
Artist Commentary:
These large shapes are soothing to look at. A social media follower said they "enjoy getting lost in the movement." I conceived of the duo of "Letting Go" panels right before the coronavirus began to shut everything down. The panels were moved to my house, and I painted them in my dining room with plastic covering all of the furniture.

Artist Biography:
Farida Hughes’ lively and intriguing abstract paintings take their inspiration from the gathering and dispersing of crowds, group relationships, and shared histories and stories of people. She developed her abstract mixed media style, and methods of mixing oil paint with resin, after many years of painting with oil paint and experimenting with oil painting mediums. Hughes studied Studio Art and English at Fordham University in New York and received an MFA in Painting from the University of Chicago. Her work is exhibited widely in galleries and art centers and collected nationally. She is currently represented by Walker Fine Art in Denver, Colorado, and Bozzuto-Greene Fine Art near Baltimore, Maryland. Farida's artwork resides in several private and corporate collections, including Target, United Health Group, and Chesapeake Capital. Several pieces were acquired in 2020 by the VCU Health Systems in Richmond, Virginia, and by Beatty Development in Baltimore, Maryland. She is a 2013 recipient of an Artists’ Initiative Grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. She has worked with many arts outreach groups and grass-roots community arts endeavors including as a mentor for WARM and a past Board Member of the Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts in Minnesota. Artist Commentary:
For ten years I lived in Minnesota and had a studio in Northeast Minneapolis, which I loved. When I moved to the city, I began to paint compositions of abstracted crowds of people as imagined from above. Can you envision this painting as a large crowd of people? You can hang this either horizontally or vertically. A little impressionistic in expression, this painting also reminds me of a garden of happy flowers.
