Friedel Dzubas, a prominent figure in the New York School, made a significant mark within the Color Field painting movement during the mid-twentieth century, persisting in his artistic endeavors until his later years. In the vibrant artistic milieu of 1950s Greenwich Village, Dzubas was a notable presence, and his influence extended to the landmark exhibition "Post-Painterly Abstraction," curated by Clement Greenberg for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 1964.
Dzubas's artistic approach, characterized by a lyrical essence, resulted in creations that bore a spiritual connection to the contemplative landscapes of the nineteenth-century German painter Caspar David Friedrich. Renowned art critic Brian O'Dohery, writing for The New York Times, eloquently described Dzubas' art as "a delightful rococo postscript to the baroque thunder of Abstract Expressionism."
