About the Item
Nature: Exterior Painting 2 follows on from Nature: Exterior Painting and is a decorative painting on Winsor & Newton cotton canvas. The canvas measures 30 inches high by 24 inches wide - and is 'portrait' in shape. Recently the Artist, Geoffrey Howard, has been influenced by Joan Mitchell and in particular the work of her mid-career, using this as fuel in his creative works. This 'fuel' unconsciously blends in the mind arriving on the canvas. "This painting kept letting me know that it wasn't finished. I'd get to the photo stage and the photograph taken showed me that I needed to do more. So I scraped the photo and did more. Then I took another set of photos. Again I was shown that more needed doing. One day the sun came out. The next day I found this quote by Joan Mitchell:" ΓÇ£Sometimes I donΓÇÖt know exactly what I want [with a painting]. I check it out, recheck it for days or weeks. Sometimes there is more to do on it. Sometimes I am afraid of ruining what I have. Sometimes I am lazy, I donΓÇÖt finish it or I donΓÇÖt push it far enough.
