Musician, pianist and visual artist Giuseppe Chiari began writing music in 1950. In 1963 he took part in the Gruppo 70's research in Florence on the visual value of the written text, the musical score became a 'painting' to look at in which the notes and gestures to perform it were visual elements. Starting in 1964, Chiari became a performer of his own works, the artist with his gestures is an element of the work of art, and from the 1970s he began to use collages as a means of expression, obtained with sheets of newspaper, sheets of music and other materials, and musical instruments such as guitars and violins appeared, which lost their sound function to acquire a visual one. In the course of his important artistic career, he has taken part in the most important international exhibitions: the 10th Rome Quadriennale, the International Venice Biennale in 1972, 1976, 1978, Documenta 5 in Kassel in 1972 and the Sydney Biennale in 1990. Numerous personal exhibitions were held before and after his death, and his works are held in numerous museums and collections, both public such as MAMBO in Bologna and private such as the Gori Collection in Pistoia.
