About the Artist: Henriette "Yetti" Stolz, born in 1935 in Serbia, emigrated to Denver, Colorado, in the early 1950s with her family after WWII. She attended East High School before pursuing her art studies at Colorado College in Colorado Springs during the mid to late 1950s. While there, Stolz was influenced by modernist artists, including Mary Chenoweth, and the creative environment at the Broadmoor Art Academy. Her work from this period reflects the influence of noted modernist Emerson Woelffer, who was active at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. In 1957, Stolz married Don Gruenler and soon began teaching Art, German, and Jewelry Making at Thomas Jefferson High School in Denver. Although she participated in several small art shows, Stolz’s art career was modest, and she produced relatively few works for sale. Despite this, her abstract paintings remain significant representations of mid-20th century modernism in Colorado.
