About the Item

Canadian artist Ivo Stoyanov is internationally recognized for his compelling abstract paintings. This piece, one of a series illustrates Stoyanov’s masterful vision that combines geometric structures in pure white with layers of dark expressive, gestural marks and stains. Stoyanov’s work is inspired by organic form, colour and texture—the beauty and fragility of nature. To create uniquely complex compositions, Stoyanov uses a combination of acrylic paint mediums, marble dust and cold wax that almost appear to vibrate with visible energy. ‘Equipoise’ means equilibrium. “I begin with a neutral background as a “layered mindscape”, using spontaneous brushstrokes, various textures, marks and stains.” Ivo Stoyanov “Ivo Stoyanov coaxes our eyes and heads into that transcendental place, a simultaneously light and dark place, where he firmly believes that art, and especially art about the natural world, shakes hands with spirit.” Donald Bracket, Art Critic Ivo Stoyanov received a master’s degree in Mural Painting from the Fine Arts Academy in Sofia, Bulgaria (1990). Stoyanov has been commissioned to create major mural projects in the US, Bulgaria and Canada. His artwork is collected in the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, China, the United Arab Emirates, Spain and Bulgaria.
