About the Item

Ivo Tartarini (1912 - 1993) designed this stylish cubist constructivist oil on canvas painting. This skillful composition and scrupulous construction use contrasting colors in turquoise and green hues. Ivo Taratarini explores the variations of abstract shapes: rectangles or squares in a pyramidal juxtaposition, the effects, and the relationships he accentuates with uneven touches of color. This painting is rich and intricate with a palette and texture range complimenting its geometrically designed color schemes. With technique and style reminiscent of the cubist movement, a deeper study will reveal the artist's unique signature motifs and style as he experiments with an endless variety of abstract forms, inviting the viewer to see the world in his way. The artwork is signed in the bottom right corner, Tartarini, and dated 70. Newly reframed in an elegant verdigris cerused wood frame with an off-white bleached wood liner. The last pictures show the painting before reframing. The painting has a handwritten dedication at the back reading: "Alla CIDA* - con molte? (unreadable word) - Ivo Tartarini - Bologna 2 - 12 - 70." *The CIDA is the Italian Center of Astrological Disciplines, founded in Turin in 1970. The artwork is in good condition, with minor scratches on the paint in the lower left corner, probably due to the previous framing. Check the close-up. Measurements: With frame: 23.23 in wide (59 cm) x 29.33 in high (74.5 cm). Opening view: 16.93 in wide (43.5 cm) x 22.83 in high (58.5 cm). Note: Ivo Tartarini: The Rhythm of Life Bolognese by birth and training, Ivo Tartarini (1912-1993) made his debut in the 1940s with a geometric painting that wanted to restore reality essentially. In the following decade, influenced by informal trends disseminated internationally, Ivo "opens" the boundaries of forms through free brushstrokes that create fluid signs and shades of color: an example is the "Gli Aquiloni" exhibited in Bologna. However, the line will always be essential since it is recognized as the foundation for how landscapes and forms are represented, even when experimenting with a softer painting than initially intended. Indeed, in the artist's conception, the intelligent sign drawn by hand is the first piece to restore a vision of what surrounds us: its subjects are taken from life: landscapes, everyday scenes, and melodies, but not rendered through a mimetic representation, imitative, but rather transfigured, taken to an abstract dimension that makes the concept visible. The line is the hyphen with physical reality, while the interval between one and the other marks the rhythm of development and indicates the flow of life. (Credit: ResartBologna)
