Jackie Battenfield
Jackie Battenfield is known for her luminous paintings. Her most recent paintings take as their subject graceful branches, foliage and blossoms of trees. Her devotion to depicting their natural form is augmented by her expertise in color and paint handling. The paintings are at once accurate, abstract and imaginative. Battenfield’s expertly mixed colors radiate with elegance against a stark white field. Her unique work is painted on semi-opaque mylar. Each painting is finished by custom mounting on clear acrylic to amplify the translucently of her materials.
Among Battenfield’s awards and honors are the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, the Warren Tanner Award, the U.S. Fulbright Specialist Program, Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation Grant, and The Sam and Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts Grant. She was awarded a permanent public commission for MTA Arts & Design, (Avenue P elevated subway station, F Line), Brooklyn, NY and several commissions for NYU/Langone Health Care, New York, NY.
Her work is represented in over 500 collections worldwide including: The New York Public Library, New York; The Zimmerli Art Museum, Montclair Art Museum, New Jersey; Palmer Museum, Pennsylvania; Museum of Art at the University of Arizona, Tucson; and the United States Embassy Collections, Brazil, Cambodia, Croatia, Jamaica, and Peru.
For the last forty years Battenfield has made a living from her studio practice and is a popular motivational speaker on the challenges of sustaining a successful career in the visual arts. Jackie Battenfield is the author of The Artist’s Guide: How to Make a Living Doing What You Love, Da Capo Press, 2009
