James Tatum's beautiful abstract landscape painting is of the 'River Exe Estuary.' The Exe Estuary is approximately 8 miles long, starting on the River Exe, south of Exeter, and spreading down towards the English Channel and the town of Exmouth, England. This Painting is a Mixed Media work on Paper. The work is mounted and framed in a thin cream frame with a glass covering. The framed dimensions measures H: 48 x W: 57 x D: 1.7 cms.
James Tatum's goal in painting is to show the world in a new and personal way. It often involves simplifying the scene to try to capture its essence and inner spirit as he views it. Tatum is particularly interested in the effects of light, shadow and movement, which is where is inspiration comes from: rivers and seas.

Inspired by 'Osea Island', an idyllic haven basking serenely on the Blackwater Estuary in Essex. It is approximately 380 acres in size and is connected to the north bank of the river by a Roman causeway, covered at high water. The tranquil surroundings led me to create this painting to capture the deep moody blues and greens of the water and the orange ochres of the rugged sand dunes. I've use a painterly application with expressive linear marks in oil pastels to create movement and interest.
