Artist statement :
My visual language allows me to venture beyond the limitations of words, enabling me to express my core essence in ways that language cannot capture. When I face the canvas each day, my commitment is to transcend the realm of thoughts and words, allowing my feelings to flow unabated.
In my artistic process, I embrace an array of tools that extend beyond traditional brushes. Leaves, branches, mops, plastic, feathers, wire—these unconventional implements find their way into my creative practice. Most of all, I cherish the tactile connection I establish with my art. I love painting with my fingers, hands, and forearms as I continuously explore and experiment.
For me, the creative process is akin to a mesmerizing piece of music or a serene walk in the woods. It elicits a potent amalgamation of excitement, empowerment, and a profound sense of connection. If I can transcend my own thoughts and let go of self-imposed restrictions, the resulting image emerges fresh, alive, and evocative.
Within the fabric of existence, there exists a harmonious vibration, an intricate web of communication and energy that interconnects all things in the universe. When I paint, I feel fully alive and in tune with this expansive energy. It becomes a conduit for my own vitality and creative expression.
Memories, emotions, spirituality, and the wonders of science converge as my greatest sources of inspiration. In my abstract paintings, I strive to create compositions that beckon viewers from a distance, pulling them closer to reveal intricate details that inform, transform, and provoke contemplation.

Jane Burton
Jane Burton is a multidisciplinary artist unafraid of tall tasks and getting a little messy. In fact, she revels in it, allowing her artistry to flow freely as she expresses herself through dazzling abstract paintings and magnificent totemic sculptures.
A UC Davis graduate, Burton studied under American painters Wayne Thiebaud and Roy De Forest as well as American sculptor Robert Arneson during the late 1970s. Filled with a passion for making art, she continued into graduate school studying graphic design and eventually found herself working in a corporate environment. The pressures and timelines of the job took their toll on her and it took two special locations to reunite Burton with her passion for ceramics and painting.
In Abiquiú, New Mexico, Burton worked alongside Indigenous potters which rejuvenated her imagination, culminating in the large figurative sculptures that she exhibited in her first solo show. Later, around 2012, Burton completed a six-week residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Alberta. In Banff Centre’s artist studios, which are stationed in the majestic Canadian Rockies, Burton made art on her own time and, free from pressures and deadlines, returned to painting.
Since 2012, Burton has been the recipient of three more residencies at the Banff Centre and one stay in 2020 at the Buffalo Creek Art Residency in Gardnerville, Nevada. She has exhibited extensively in California including at The Artery, a two-person show with abstract painter Donna McGinnis at William Merrill Gallery and serial exhibitions at Sonoma’s New Leaf Gallery.

I also find human psychology and science fascinating. But I see compositions everywhere, whether it be flowers in a park, the way smoke curls, books on a library shelf or a street market. Everything is made up of shapes and colours.
